Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky posted bail Thursday after new charges were filed in a sexual abuse scandal that continues to widen, CNN has learned.

After bailing out of jail at the Centre County Correctional Facility, Sandusky will be on house arrest and electronic monitoring, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports.

second grand jury report released Wednesday details allegations from two more alleged victims. The incidents are said to have occurred around the same time as the previous allegations detailed in the grand jury’s first report, bringing the number of people formally accusing the founder of the Second Mile program to 10.

The former Penn State defense coordinator has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation, saying he only “horsed around” with the disadvantaged boys in his care. He will face a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Sandusky faces 12 new counts in the molestation case, bringing the total number of criminal counts to 52. He was charged Wednesday with four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor.

His attorney, Joe Amendola, said Wednesday he expected his client to spend the night in jail because he might not be able to post the $250,000 bail before Thursday, adding that the former Penn State coach didn’t have time to make arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Second Mile charity Sandusky founded reported Wednesday that it had “lost significant financial support” in the wake of the scandal and plans to reduce its staff.

“We at The Second Mile are saddened by the need to make these cutbacks; however, our foremost concerns reside with the victims of the horrific abuse reported by the Attorney General and with the children we serve,” the charity said in a written statement.

Penn State President Rodney Erickson said last week that applications for admission to the university were up more than 3.4% over the previous year. Paid membership in the alumni association was up 2%, he said.

  1. I am writing you this email to express my disgust in the media, when it comes to the Penn State Scandal. I think it’s very important that we label this situation as it really is. This is not a sex case scandal; but, this has to be labeled “Penn State Child Molestation scandal”. I think it is important that the word “molestation or molested” is used anytime we refer to an adult acts inappropriately with a child. Although the media has brought great attention to this matter, I am disappointed that they are refusing to carefully label this matter. This issue exist on all the networks. They are also repeatedly stating that the kid was rapped. Please help to incorporate the word molestation when we refer to this case. I think your influence will be great to this matter. Thanks a million.
